Even safer and more comfortable.
Breda, 20 July 2018 - Piaggio is coming up with a brand new version of its popular MP3. The world's first three-wheeled scooter - which can also be ridden with a simple car licence* - is now available in MP3 350, MP3 500 HPE Sport and MP3 500 HPE Business versions.
- The new Piaggio MP3 is available in 350, 500 HPE Sport and 500 HPE Business versions
- New 350 and 500 cc engines for increased efficiency and performance
- Maximum safety thanks to ABS and ASR - traction control
- Optimised comfort for both driver and passenger
With the launch of the MP3, Piaggio has revolutionised personal mobility in and out of town. This three-wheeled scooter combines the safety of a car, the practicality of a scooter and the driving dynamics of a motorbike. Its two front wheels are linked by a patented suspension system, so even an inexperienced rider can control the machine without risk.
Powerful yet economical engines
The new Piaggio MP3 series comprises the MP3 350 and the MP3 500 HPE, which itself comes in Sport and Business versions. The highly sophisticated 350 cc engine of the MP3 350 replaces the old 300 cc engine and boasts 30.6 HP and 29 Nm of torque. It guarantees performance comparable to that of a 400cc engine (while weighing 10 kg less) and the same emission levels as a 300cc. And there's no need to shift gears, since, like its predecessor, the MP3 350 is equipped with a continuously-variable transmission (CVT).
The more powerful MP3 500 HPE delivers 44.2 bhp and 47.5 Nm of torque. The throttle on this top-of-the-range model is an electronic 'ride-by-wire' type. This means that a simple press of a button is all it takes to change the engine programme, for sportier performance or to limit fuel consumption.
TomTom navigation system
The MP3 350 and MP3 500 HPE Sport are available in five colours, including three matt (Carbonio Black, Grey and Green) and two gloss (Pastel White and Grey). The MP3 500 HPE Sport also features red Kayaba shock absorbers at the rear (for greater comfort, stability and traction), matte black details on the bodywork, aluminium inserts on the dashboard, and unique front brake discs.
The elegant Business finish of the MP3 500 HPE is available in 4 colours: Bianco Iceberg (white), Nero Universo (black), Grigio Opaco (grey) and the new Blu Opaco (blue). Among other features, it is equipped with Vio, the first navigation system developed by TomTom specifically for scooters. It is integrated into the steering wheel, easy to remove and rechargeable via a USB port on the scooter.
Modest recast
The designers at the Piaggio Group's Centro Stile have given the MP3 a discreet makeover. The scooter now sports LED direction indicators, a slightly redesigned front grille and a new windscreen bubble for improved wind protection. The seat has also been redesigned to provide greater comfort for both rider and passenger. Under the seat, there's a compartment that easily accommodates two full-face helmets. The electronic lock can be unlocked by remote control.
Optimal safety
The three new Piaggio MP3 models are equipped with ABS (anti-lock braking system) and ASR (traction control system). Piaggio was the first manufacturer to fit traction control to its scooters, a system that reduces the risk of the rear wheel skidding, particularly on wet roads. Thanks to its unique three-wheel design, the MP3 is able to remain upright when stationary (a simple press of a button locks the suspension), so there's no need for a kickstand (which is present nonetheless).
Piaggio Multimedia Platform
Piaggio's multimedia platform allows a mobile phone to be connected to the scooter, displaying information about the scooter in real time, acting as a multimedia screen and alerting the rider as soon as the depth of the tyre tread falls below the safety threshold or the tyre pressure is too low.
Wide choice of accessories
Piaggio also offers a wide range of accessories to equip or customise the MP3, including a 30, 37 or 50-litre luggage compartment and two side cases with a total capacity of 42 litres. You can also order another windscreen, leg protectors, heated grips, an anti-theft alarm and an even more comfortable seat. Versions equipped with the 500cc engine can be fitted with Bitubo adjustable shock absorbers. TomTom Vio comes as standard on the MP3 500 HPE Business, but can be fitted as an option on all other models. Piaggio also offers a wide range of helmets and gloves for the MP3.
Piaggio's new MP3 models are currently available for sale. Base price: €9,069 (Luxembourg €8,769) for the MP3 350 Sport, €10,349 for the MP3 500 HPE Business and €10,749 for the MP3 500 HPE Sport.[/fusion_text]
